The Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), H.E. Dr. Mohamed Elbaradei, will visit Israel as an official guest upon the invitation of the Director General of the Israel Atomic Energy Commission (IAEC). Dr. ElBaradei is planned to arrive on 6 July and leave on 8 July 2004. This is Dr. Elbaradei’s third visit to Israel on behalf of the IAEA and the second visit as the IAEA Director General. This visit, as well as the previous ones, is part of the standard longstanding working relations between the IAEA and Israel since Israel became a Member State of the Agency in 1957. During his visit, the IAEA Director General will hold professional consultations with IAEC personnel on issues of bilateral cooperation and interest, including the resolution, adopted annually by the IAEA General Conferences for over 20 years, on the Application of IAEA Safeguards in the Middle East. Dr. Elbaradei will also meet the Israeli Prime Minister, as well as the Israeli Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Minister of Health. In addition, Dr. ElBaradei will deliver a lecture at the Leonard Davis Institute for International Relations at the Mount Scopus Campus of the Hebrew University in Jerusalem.


The Director General will be accompanied by the Director of IAEA’s Office of External Relations and Policy Co-ordination , Mr. Vilmos Cserveny, and the IAEA spokesperson and Director of the Public Information Division, Mr. Mark Gwozdecky.
