FM Shalom Meets Egyptian President Mubarak

2004-03-12 Israeli Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Silvan Shalom met today with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak. The meeting, which lasted about an hour and a half, took place at the Neapolis Presidential Palace in Cairo.
Foreign Minister Shalom stated that the meeting went very well, and that a new and fruitful era has begun in relations between the two states. He added that he found the Egyptian President determined to promote progress in the Israeli-Palestinian peace process.
He further stated that „as the leader of the Arab world, Egypt under President Mubarak’s stewardship, is working hard in order to move the peace process forward and to bring about a reduction of violence between ourselves and the Palestinians.”


During the course of their meeting, the two leaders discussed issues of mutual concern. Foreign Minister Shalom stated that he came to Egypt in order to build bridges of peace, and to expand the investments and the infrastructure of peaceful relations. In addition, he conveyed to President Mubarak a personal message from Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, and stated that Palestinian Authority Prime Minister Abu Ala should return to the negotiating table without preconditions.
